Prof. Esther Mwaikambo, (M.D, M.Med, F.TAAS, Intern. Member AAAS) is a Senior Pediatrician and the first female medical doctor in Tanzania. Her career spans medical education, basic science research especially on cerebral malaria and national policy development in areas of science, health (with special reference to maternal and child health), hospital administration and management of training and higher education. Among several policies related positions held are: Vice Chancellor of the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU), Chairperson National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA), Chairperson of Polio National Certification Committee and Chairperson of Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA). She is and has been a board member of several higher education and health institutions within Tanzania and East Africa. She carries with her a longstanding concern on health worker/patient relationships, the ethical and conduct of health personnel and promotion of human rights. She is a recipient of various awards including Martin Luther King Jr., Drum Major for Justice Award in 2013, the “2009 Harvard Distinguished African Lecturer Award” and the “2013 Tanzania Best African Health Research scientist Award” to mention just a few. Prof. Mwaikambo was recognized by the South Africa Department of Science as one of the 52 African scientists who had substantially contributed to science in Africa in 2017 and in 2018 she was honored an international membership of American Academy of Arts and Science.
MARY V. KIBONA
Ms. Mary Kibona, (BSc, MSc) is a Senior Research Officer-Nutrition Trainer with more than 20 years’ experience. She is highly qualified with skilled leadership in education, training, extension and continuing education in the discipline of food and nutrition. Ms. Kibona has a sound capacity in planning, coordinating and implementing food and nutrition programmes for the benefit of the people of the United Republic of Tanzania. Her outstanding experience range from facilitating training in food and nutrition and related subjects, conducting research in matters relating to food and nutrition, advising the nutrition stakeholders, training institutions and other public organizations on matters relating to food and nutrition, stimulating the public as well as creating awareness of the importance of good nutrition and dangers of malnutrition. Kibona is self-motivated skilled professional, dedicated to maintain high quality standards, strong capacity in management and coordination of training activities with ability to forge team work spirit and motivating other staff. She has indeed excellent verbal and written communication skills.
RAPHAEL R. MACHA
Mr. Raphael Macha, (BSc, MSc, PhD. Cand) is a Lecturer, researcher and consultant with MSc. Economics and BSc. Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness from Mzumbe University and Sokoine University of Agriculture respectively both in Tanzania. He has been working for The University of Dodoma since March 2010 to date. He was Head, Department of Economics and Statistics from 2013 to October 2016. During the same time, he served as a member of various management Boards at the University. Currently, he is pursuing Collaborative PhD programme in Economics under African Economic Research Consortium at Department of Economics of University of Dar es salaam. He has published various papers in international journals and has participated in local and international conferences among others CSAE conference at St Catherine College, Oxford University, UK, 2013. He has also participated in short courses including impact evaluation for development, research methodology, 2014-15 Tanzania service provision assessment (SPA) data analysis workshop and result based financing in health among others. Mr. Macha has taught various courses including; Microeconomics, Econometrics, Cost Benefit analysis, Principles of Economics, Operations research, Research methodology, health economic evaluation and Project Planning and Management. His areas of research interest includes but not limited to Health Economics; project and programme evaluation; public sector economics and policy; contingent valuation studies; and welfare analysis of public policies.
JEREMIAH MAKULA
Dr. Jeremiah Makula, (MD, MPH) is a public health professional with ten years of experience in public health and health management in Tanzania. Currently Dr. Makula serves as part time assistant lecturer at Hubert Kairuki Memorial University and consulting Projects Director for Global Peace Foundation Tanzania. Prior to that, he worked with Marie Stopes Tanzania providing strategic oversight of MST’s clinical quality, research and management information systems teams. He also worked as MST’s Clinical Quality Lead, responsible for ensuring clinical service quality across the programme. Within MST he also worked for five years as a project Manager engaging in planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and financial control of eight projects of varying scales. Remarkably, he has led a very successful cervical cancer screening project which included testing applicability of using new screening methods in outreach setting in low resource countries, the first of its kind in the world. Dr. Makula has a Master’s Degree in Public Health and a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Tanzania.
